It's simply easier to keep the slimes in the Grotto instead of having to constantly monitoring them like in other areas.

Phosphor Slimes only spawn at night and vanish during the day, and since they can fly, they frequently test the Air Net upgrade to the corrals. While the Solar Shield upgrade can also protect the light-sensitive slimes, it's useless should they escape. What makes the Grotto so appealing is its ability to keep certain slimes safe. RELATED: Unsighted Is a Flawed but Exciting Indie Soulslike With a Time-Bending Twist When the Lab is unlocked, it can be quickly accessed through the Grotto. This expansion also has Treasure Pods and transporters, both of which are unlocked later in the game. There's also a slime toy to be found here, the Night Light Slime Toy, which is a favorite toy of Phosphor Slimes. The Grotto also leads to a section of the Dry Reef known as the Spring Archipelago, which leads to the Feral Sink and the Pink Party Gordo within. It's also a good place to keep slimes that are prone to misbehaving, as the Grotto is difficult for them to escape from. Not only does this keep them in one place, there's also no risk of losing these vulnerable slimes if they happen to escape the confines of their corral during the day. However, the Overgrowth doesn't offer the immediate benefits that the Grotto does, as the Grotto's dark caverns allow you keep light-sensitive slimes (like Phosphor Slimes) without needing the Solar Shield upgrade to your corral. The Grotto costs the same as the Overgrowth (the expansion on the other end of the ranch) at 1,795 Newbucks, the in-game currency.
